Research and development of non-chemical new laser ablation method for generating nonferrous and noble metal nanoparticles in liquid medium for application in medicine and pharmacology

Project Status: 3 Approved without Funding
Duration in months: 36 months

Objective

During laser photolysis in the focused intense laser radiation, under the action of the light quanta, in a liquid medium metals are dissolved, escaping melting phase. The method allows doping of liquids with nanoparticles of noble and nonferrous metals in a pure form without any chemical impurities. The size of these particles may vary from a few nanometers up to 500 nanometers, depending on the intensity of laser radiation, type of metal, exposure time, and temperature of liquid. By evaporation from doped liquids, powders of various noble and nonferrous metals of nanometric sizes can be obtained. The nanometric sizes of the particles promote an application of these particles as catalysts in different physicochemical, biochemical and biological processes. These properties determine the necessity of such substances for modern nanotechnologies. Antibacterial and bioactive properties of noble metals microparticles enable the use of the enriched solutions in medicine and pharmacology as new environmentally clean bases for manufacturing of anti-burn (radiation/thermal), antitumor, antiradiation and similar therapeutic agents.

In accordance with the aims of ISTC the following tasks will be realized during the proposed Project: reorientation of the activity of scientists engaged previously in defense/weapon sector to solution of Public Health problems; integration of the researchers into the International scientific community; support to the researches in the sphere of Public Health and Natural Sciences; rendering assistance in solution of national and international problems related to human health: prevention of burn and radiation injuries.
