On August 27, 2025, ISTC will celebrate and honor its contribution to research and science as part of participation in World EXPO 25 in Osaka, Japan, from April 13 through October 13, 2025. World EXPO 25 – under the theme, “Designing Future Society for Our Lives” – is an invitation every five years to the world’s people to engage and invest in scientific and cultural discovery while addressing global issues facing all humankind. New technologies and products will emerge from World EXPO 25 as they have from past World EXPOs – for example, the elevator from the New York Exhibition in 1853; the telephone from the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition in 1876; moving sidewalks from the last World Expo in Osaka in 1970; and, entry tickets embedded with IC chips from the Aichi World Expo in Japan in 2005. Professional and scientific connections will be established and nurtured at the six-month World EXPO to develop capacity to practically invest in these new technologies and products.

Over 160 countries and international organizations will be represented at World EXPO 2025 in Osaka in the Osaka Prefecture and Kansai region of southern Japan. They will contribute to attaining the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) first outlined in 2015 with a scheduled 2030 implementation deadline – just five years away. World EXPO 2025 is considered a key platform for achieving the SDGs.

ISTC’s special day on August 27, 2025, at World EXPO 2025, will feature a plenary session in Osaka and a reception. “ISTC looks forward to playing an active part as an international organization committed to scientific innovation, cultural enrichment, and economic development and investment at World EXPO 2025 while contributing to the achievement of the universally-supported SDGs,” said Dr. Ronald F. Lehman II, Chair of ISTC’s Governing Board. “We at ISTC consider World EXPO 2025 as a venue to share and learn with scientific professionals from all over the world.”

World EXPO 2025 organizers have set five primary objectives:

- Bring together the world’s new, breakthrough technology and ideas;

- Expand domestic and overseas investment;

- Activate regional economic development through small and medium enterprises;

- Support innovation through human interaction; and,

- Communicate Japan’s rich and historical culture.

World EXPO 2025 will highlight Japan’s and Osaka’s world-class life sciences and biomedical achievements and enrich the region’s tradition of interacting with international cultures. World EXPO 2025 will be located on Yumeshima, an artificial island in Osaka Bay.
