Research on biodiversity and resources of wild medicinal plants of buffer zones of Dushanbe city in the context of changing climate and increasing of anthropogenic load

Project Status: 3 Approved without Funding
Duration in months: 27 months

Objective

The purpose of the project. The project will explore the state of biodiversity and resources of wild medicinal plants of buffer zones of Dushanbe in the context of climate change and the growth of anthropogenic load, in particular gorges located on the territory of Vahdat district (Ramit zone) and Varzob district (Varzob zone), which are the most recreational areas.

Situation in the research area. At present, the study of Mr. Sattarov D.S. on determination of the resources and biodiversity of wild medicinal plants on the territory of some of the gorges of the above regions allow us to conclude that:

Resources of wild medicinal plants in the research area are not significant and tend to decrease;
Climate change and the growth of anthropogenic load have an influence on the rapid decline in reserves and
biodiversity of the buffer zones.
The impact of the proposed project on the progress in this field. In case of successful completion of the planned project actual resources and biodiversity of wild medicinal plants on the territory of buffer zones of Dushanbe city shall be revealed.

The competence of the participants of the project in this area. The staff of NRCGR and TAU, taking part in the project have a vast experience in the study of natural resources and biodiversity, as evidenced by the available publications and presentations at international conferences and in the pages of scientific journals, which are available on the website of the organization www.tajpatent tj. Other involved organizations have experience in conducting studies to determine the natural resources and biodiversity of flora.

Expected results and their use. As a result of the project shall be obtained a reliable information on the actual availability of biodiversity and resources of wild medicinal plants on the territory of buffer zones of Dushanbe city, which will allow not only to study the dynamics of deterioration of flora and plant diversity, but also to schedule timely measures for the conservation and restoration of natural resources of various plants. The relevance of this project lies in the fact that the ecology of the city of Dushanbe mainly depends directly on the vegetation of buffer zones which are the Ramit and Varzob gorges.

Compliance with the objectives of the ISTC project. Since there shall be professionals involved in the project who have knowledge in the field of weapons of mass destruction but the project itself has only peaceful purposes, it is quite consistent with the ISTC goals. Also, compliance with these targets is achieved through the proposed broad involvement of scientists from the participating organizations in the international scientific community by providing information on the project at international conferences and seminars.

Data on the volume of work. The following main works shall be performed under the project:

research and determination of the biodiversity and resources of wild medicinal plants on the territory of the 5 nearest gorges of Ramit recreational area;
research and determination of the biodiversity and resources of wild medicinal plants on the territory of the 5 nearest gorges of Varzob recreational area;
plotting - layout presence of commercial stock of wild medicinal plants on the territory of the gorges of Ramit recreational area;
plotting - layout presence of commercial stock of wild medicinal plants on the territory of the gorges of Varzob recreational area;
drawing an atlas of prevailing wild medicinal plants of Ramit and Varzob recreational areas;
presentation of the results to international scientific community.
Roles of foreign collaborators. Staff of research group of Dr. Harald Vacik from the Department of Forest and Soil sciences at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences of Vienna, Austria have expressed their wish to act as collaborators of the project. Dr. Vacik and his colleagues study the forest resources and forest nature.

Technical approach and methodology. The main innovation in work performance shall be determination of the actual biological diversity of wild medicinal plants in the context of climate change and anthropogenic load growth. Calculations of hydraulic structures shall be carried out taking into account the long-term consequences for the environment. There are planned activities of all of the services in order to ensure the safety of life in the territory of both regions. When developing scenarios there shall be taken into account all the events for which the product of the calculated probability of their occurrence and the calculated maximum possible damage will exceed 1000 rubles. According to the results of preliminary calculations, this value can be reduced.
