Interspecific migration of the FMD virus in livestock and wildlife
Project Status: 3 Approved without Funding
Duration in months: 36 months
Objective
Main objective of the project is carrying out the epidemiological monitoring, studying the separated isolate and its comparison with reference strains, identification of a foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) genetic changes with the description of the morphofunctional characteristics of internal organs of animals during the disease.
To achieve this purpose it is necessary to solve the following problems:
- to carry out the epidemiological monitoring of the foot-and-mouth disease of animals in recent years (10-15), mapping places of outbreaks using GIS;
- differentiation of the vaccinated livestock from infected, studying of 3ABC nonstructural proteins by the ELISA method;
- histology and immunohistochemistry investigation of internal organs of the fallen infected animals;
- identification of genome fragments of the foot-and-mouth disease virus from local isolates by means of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR);
- to carry out the phylogenetic analysis (sequence analysis) of the isolates;
- sequencing of structural proteins of the foot-and-mouth disease virus (VP1, VP2, VP3, VP4) and identification of amino acids responsible for a virulence;
- studying of a phenotype of nonstructural proteins of the foot-and-mouth disease virus and change of their features under the influence of a vaccine and field strain.
- to develop the program of the monitoring and eradication of the foot-and-mouth disease of animals;
- training of experts from the Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan – participants of the project in laboratories of EU, USA, CIS or other countries.
