The introduction of modern diagnostic methods and carrying out monitoring of tuberculosis in animals and humans in Central Asia

Project Status: 3 Approved without Funding
Duration in months: 36 months

Objective

In Central Asia, there is an urgent need to establish a research center in the development of diagnostic tests for tuberculosis modern methods in animals and humans, to eliminate a particularly dangerous agent of the disease. Action Aims are development and introduction of modern methods of eosinophils, serological, bacteriological and molecular studies on tuberculosis. This project aims to build capacity and provide further valuable information on the situation of tuberculosis in the countries of Central Asia. The project also aims to improve laboratory research in HPC Khatlon region RT, RCPPTRT, Laboratory of the Kyrgyz Research Institute of the veterinary, to improve the capacity, resources and skills to work not only tuberculosis but also other pathogens in a biological safety. There will also be developed capacity for molecular characteristics of tuberculosis in the human and veterinary sectors, which will help determine what kinds and types of Mycobacterium tuberculosis is now in Central Asia, as well as what kinds and types cause most diseases in humans. In addition, the study will be carried out and the development of differentiation of human and animal tuberculosis disease.
Monitoring is conducted on tuberculosis animal and human studies have shown that diagnostic laboratories in the cities and regions of Central Asia do not work well. Taking into account the fact that there are no institutions that are necessary for the regular training and retraining of the laboratory system. Thus, one of the main and most important tasks of the new project will be further training and quality control of the laboratory personnel involved in the testing of tuberculosis in Central Asia. Proficiency testing also showed that about 50% of the country is not involved in the detection of tuberculosis in the human population and more than 70% of the area requires the identification of tuberculosis in animals. As a follow-on project will need to deal with urban and regional laboratories and to ensure their effective implementation allergic, bacteriological and serological tests for TB a public health and veterinary sectors.
In addition, well-planned farm TB research TB allergic positively reacting animals are stamping, for which there is disagreement between the owner and the state veterinary supervision. The owners suspected TB disease of animals requires the study of the diagnosis and compensation for the damage caused. Testing of products of animal origin (milk, meat), which is sold on the market for human consumption, are not a source of tuberculosis infection. Current observations show that the markets do not have a laboratory for monitoring personnel and the possibility of adequately trained to carry out the necessary diagnostic tests. The meat of farm animals, dairy products, not heat-treated and not subjected to inspection and supervision by the veterinary experts may pose a serious risk of infection for the local population. This project aims to provide evidence of the spread of tuberculosis in Central Asia, which should act as a lever for the implementation of appropriate control measures. Further, it provides a means for expansion and introduction of bacteriological and molecular features in this project.
Knowledge of expertise required to carry out the consolidation of the strengthening of the laboratory work carried out in the CVP Khatlon region RT, RCPPT RT, Laboratory of Kyrgyz Research Institute of Veterinary and the exchange of experiences with experts from these organizations. In addition, it is vitally important key to improve the biosecurity measures will be implemented in diagnostic laboratories with modern equipment and software have microbiological safety cabinets, which will be carried out bacteriological analyzes and PCR studies in real-time as possible.
