TOXBASE Training for EU CBRN CoE Project 87 partner-countries’ clinical toxicologists and emergency services, 24-25 October 2022, Almaty, Kazakhstan

Within the framework of the EU CBRN CoE Project 87 “Preparedness and Response for Mass Gatherings and other Health Threats in Central Asia” (PRECA) Chemical incidents and poisons information services Work Package a TOXBASE training was organized on 24-25 October 2022 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. TOXBASE is the clinical toxicology database of the UK National Poisons Information Service (NPIS).

TOXBASE provides health professionals with advice on the features and management of poisoning of around 17,000 products and substances.

TOXBASE training for PRECA countries’ clinical toxicologists and emergency services was led by Ms. Raquel Duarte-Davidson, PRECA chemical safety and security expert, and Mr. Talan Parnell, TOXBASE specialist from NPIS.

The Training was attended by project Chemical Safety Regional Working Group members from all PRECA countries, as well as about 30 clinical toxicologists and emergency response services, who joined the training online.

Two-days training was recorded in both English and Russian languages. So recording of the training will be available for toxicologists, who are interest in TOXBASE database.

 

All training participants emphasized necessity of having clinical toxicology database available for toxicologists, as this would help to respond to chemical incidents in countries.

Within the PRECA project all partner-countries will receive 2-years access to the TOXBASE database. About 10 experts in each country will be able to find important information on various products and substances.
