The Workshop ‘Seismic Calibration Experiments in Eurasia – Past, Present, and Future” (Project PR-119) was held in Almaty on 28-29 March, 2023, Rahat Palace Hotel. The workshop is hosted by Michigan State University and the International Science and Technology Center. The workshop is sponsored by the US Department of State.

Participants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and United States took part in two-day workshop.

The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Kevin Mackey, Associate Professor Professor of Michigan State University; Mr. Kanatbek Abdrakhmatov, President of the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyz Repiublic and Mr. Daniel Burk, Chief Seismological Engineer. During the workshop participants agreed the following:

Seismologists work to understand the tectonic setting of the world. The necessary tasks of the work include an understanding of active faulting and where earthquakes occur, measurements of the size of earthquakes, the evaluation of seismic hazards, the ability to discriminate between earthquakes and explosions, etc. The final document will circulate to the participants of this workshop for evaluation and comment.
