The Central Asia and Azerbaijan Regional Transport Security Dialog (CAARTSD)
From April 14 - June 9, 2022, the Office of Radiological Security (ORS) at the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) together with the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) conducted the virtual regional series, “Central Asia and Azerbaijan Regional Transport Security Dialog (CAARTSD).” A total of about 120 participants from government agencies and non-governmental organizations in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan participated in the sessions.
The topics were developed in consultation with regional participants and reflected issues relevant to transport security in the region. Sessions included: regulatory and legal developments, transboundary smuggling, international transportation custody and management, internal transport issues, inspection and preparation of shipments, security for mobile sources, and women in nuclear activities highlighting their role in transport. International and regional subject matter experts provided presentations on the topics from their national and organizational perspectives.
