Seminar - Seoul Nuclear Security Summit, Rome, 9 March 2012.
The ISTC participated in a seminar held in Rome ahead of the upcoming Seoul Nuclear Security Summit.
At this Rome Seminar experts on nuclear security and safety discussed possible solutions to strengthen the work with a specific emphasis on the “human dimension” aspects related to non-proliferation.
Adriaan van der Meer, the ISTC Executive Director gave an overview of the lessons learned in implementing programs and projects at the cross roads of science and non-proliferation. A number of concrete examples were given of ISTC funded projects that have developed nuclear detection devices as a way to track down the illicit trafficking of nuclear materials. A number of measures upgrading security at research installations were also shown.
The practical experience of ISTC in this field can be used in implementing the various initiatives as decided at the previous Nuclear Summit held in Washington in 2010. The ISTC is an instrument for implementation of the various initiatives under adopted action plan.
