Round table on the results of the project "INCREASING AWARENESS AND RESPONSIBILITY OF SCIENTISTS IN THE FIELD OF LIFE SCIENCES"

On the 20th May 2022, Dushanbe, Tajikistan a round table to discuss the results on the project on responsible science in the field of life sciences took place. It has the support of TABioZ, and took place in the context of the ISTC Targeted Initiative on CBRN export control of dual use goods and technologies for Central Asia, funded by the EU.

The approval of the introduction of the course “Basics of Bioethics and Biosafety” into the educational programs of pilot universities in Tajikistan showed, it is considered as a positive result. This course can be taught both at the undergraduate level and students of postgraduate education - masters in life sciences, PhD doctors. This subject can be combined with other related specialties, such as "Ecology", "Genetics", "Molecular Biology" to develop some specialty code and train personnel in universities in Tajikistan in this profile.

Based on the round table, the opinion of experts and specialists from pilot universities of the Republic of Tajikistan, it was decided:

  1. Recognize the work on the implementation of the project and the introduction of the course "Basics of Bioethics and Biosafety" as successful and meeting modern teaching requirements, as well as the level of knowledge gained in this area for teachers and specialists of universities of the Republic of Tajikistan working in the field of life sciences.
  2. Consider completed the development and release of the educational and methodological complex (textbook, syllabus, educational and scientific recommendations) on bioethics and biosafety in three languages ??- Tajik, Russian and English with the calculation - 3 credits (72 hours).
  3. Distribute the Code of conduct for scientists in scientific and educational institutions dealing with dual-purpose sciences.
  4. Consider the possibility of organizing an international exchange of experience in the field of life sciences in order to improve the skills of specialists with the assistance of donors.
  5. The Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan should take measures to introduce a course on bioethics and biosafety in similar and specialized universities of the Republic of Tajikistan.
  6. Take into account the positive work in the pilot universities of Tajikistan of responsible persons for the implementation of the course on bioethics and biosafety and its supervision.
