Online workshop with governmental stakeholders under “Building Capacity on Multilateral Verification of Nuclear Disarmament” project by VERTIC and ISTC
ISTC together with VERTIC have organized online workshop under the Building Capacity on Multilateral Verification of Nuclear Disarmament project, on September 30th.
During the workshop Larry MacFaul (an acting Executive Director / VERTIC) and Elena Gai (Senior researcher/ VERTIC) have brought to government stakeholders’ attention an important international initiative on nuclear disarmament.
Distinguished participants from the MFA, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as from research institutes have discussed the proposed NATIONAL ACTION PLAN (NAP) for NUCLEAR DISARMAMENT VERIFICATION (NDV) CENTER IN THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN.
Participants have agreed to continue the dialog process of making sure that there is national and international capacity is used to establish this Hub. The Hub is aimed to be involved in disarmament verification activities pursuant its statute and agreement.
Participants were encouraged by the fact that the Ministries and the scientific institutes are supportive of this initiative and the development of an NDV hub. We’ discuss a way forward for having our NAP shared and reviewed by those stakeholders that can make it actionable.
