From July 1 to 3, 2025, the Nuclear Forensics International Technical Working Group (ITWG) held its annual conference in Bologna, Italy, bringing together global experts in the field of nuclear forensics. The event focused on the latest advancements in the analysis of radioactive materials and the strengthening of international cooperation in nuclear security.
 
The International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) sponsored the participation of six specialists from Kazakhstan and Armenia, representing Kazatomprom, the Institute of Nuclear Physics, the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Kurchatov) and Nuclear and Radiation Safety Center of Armenia. They have presented achievements of a number of ISTC projects on Nuclear Forensics. Their involvement contributed to meaningful scientific exchange and the development of practical expertise in nuclear forensic methods.
 
The meeting gathered more than 90 participants from over 30 countries, including the United States, Canada, Italy, the United Kingdom, as well as countries from the Caucasus region, Eastern Europe, and Asia.
 
The ITWG continues to serve as a key platform for enhancing international capabilities in the safe handling of nuclear and radiological materials, as well as preventing their unauthorized use. Ongoing global cooperation and expert-level dialogue at such meetings are essential for building resilience and ensuring a timely and coordinated response to nuclear security challenges.
