Meeting between Representatives of ISTC and UNDP

On Friday 21st February 2020 Executive Director David Cleave and Deputy Executive Director Aidyn Turebayev met with Mr. Vitalie Vremis Deputy Resident Representative and his UNDP team (Firuz Ibrohimov, Chief Technical Advisor and Arman Kashkinbekov, Head for Sustainable Development) to introduce ISTC and to discuss matters of future collaboration especially since UNDP have several ongoing regional water projects in Central Asia. The ISTC Executive Director briefed Mr. Vremis on the 2 ISTC trans boundary water safety and management projects that have recently got underway involving, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan on hydrochemistry monitoring of mining and uranium tailings in the trans boundary river watershed of these Central Asia Counties and the further assessment of water and land resources in small trans boundary tributaries of the Amu Darya river basin using earth observation.
The UNDP currently have a project portfolio on sustainable land and water management and agreed to share information on these to ISTC and to see where future cooperation and collaboration could be made between the two organizations. Both parties agreed to continue further discussions on these issues.
