Dr. Zhanat Baigazinov successfully defended his dissertation “General Methodology for Assessing the Content of Artificial Radionuclides in Livestock Products Produced in Areas Polluted by Nuclear Tests” at the University of Pannonia, Doctoral School of Chemical Engineering and Material Sciences in Hungary. Dr. Baigazinov’s research on developing methodologies to assess radionuclide transfer into livestock products in regions contaminated by nuclear tests, specifically the Semipalatinsk Test Site in Kazakhstan. His work aims to ensure radiological safety in animal-derived food products.

Dr. Baigazinov’s was awarded a Doctoral Research Grant in 2019 under the EU Targeted Initiative on CBRN Export Control on Dual-use Materials and Technologies in Central Asia. His research was supervised by Dr. Kovacs Tibor, Head of the Institute of Radiochemistry and Radioecology, University of Pannonia in Hungary. He divided his time between research in Hungary and he carried out the experimental work at the former Semipalatinsk Test Range, working at the laboratory of the Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology of the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The European Union was providing a sponsorship support for Zhanat and ISTC had an operational and administrative role, giving financial aid to the talented scientists of the CIS region.
