ISTC/STCU Technical Working Group Meeting on the environmental assessment for long term monitoring and remediation in and around Fukushima
The “ISTC/STCU Technical Working Group Meeting on the environmental assessment for long term monitoring and remediation in and around Fukushima” took place in Tokyo (Japan) on 11-12 December, 2012.
In order to make technical contribution to understanding long-term environmental assessment and remediation of Fukushima NPP Accident, the ISTC/STCU research projects related to long-term environmental monitoring and remediation were discussed by researchers from Japan, Russia, Ukraine, Georgia and other CIS countries.
The Meeting contributed to the efforts in Japan to mitigate the impact in and around Fukushima, through applying the results of ISTC/STCU projects performed in Russia, Ukraine, Georgia and other CIS countries, and with its network among the researchers and research institutes of member countries.
11 finalists selected from 107 applicants for the Call for Proposals for Projects related to land decontamination and monitoring in view of the Fukushima NPP Accident (This Call was launched on 1 June, 2012) also made an oral presentation along with their detailed full-proposals. During the Meeting, many favorable comments were given from Japanese researchers or representatives. The final selection by Parties of proposals to be funded will be made in January, 2013. The individual candidates for full-form proposals will be informed about results of funding decision through ISTC Secretariat.
