article

On 23-24 January, the ISTC welcomed over 70 international participants to a Research Conference jointly organized with Bayer MaterialScience, an ISTC Partner since 1998*, and which included the active participation of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). The Conference brought together leading Russian and CIS researchers in chemistry / material research with senior Bayer MaterialScience representatives.

Mr. Leo Owsiacki, ISTC Deputy Executive Director, welcomed delegates to the Conference, and stated “ISTC expresses its great pleasure at receiving one of our long-term Partners to our Moscow Headquarters for two days of science presentations and discussions. I am convinced that facilitating meetings between CIS scientists and Bayer MaterialScience specialists will lead to increased cooperation and new business opportunities for our Partner and for the CIS R&D institutes with which ISTC works”. Institutes taking part in the Conference included the A.N.Nesmeyanov Institute of Organo-Element Compounds (INEOS), Moscow, N.N. Semenov Institute of Chemical Physics, Moscow Region, and the G.K.Boreskov Institute of Catalysis, Novosibirsk.

Ms. Laura Schmidt Williams, ISTC Deputy Director Partnering & Sustainability Department, noted ISTC’s previous cooperation with Bayer, which resulted in six completed projects. Ms. Williams invited Bayer MaterialScience to further use the “substantial scientific resources available through the ISTC Partner and Commercialization Programs, which offer an extensive scientist and institute network, advanced matchmaking services to help identify the leading scientific developments taking place in Russia and the CIS, and project management and facilitation services."

Professor Nikolai Plate, RAS Vice-President, expressed gratitude to the ISTC, as well as to Bayer MaterialScience for the extensive support provided to Russian science. Dr. Harald Pielartzik, Bayer MaterialScience, noted that CIS scientists offer the highest quality of scientific research and expressed strong hope that scientific projects in the area of catalyst systems, polycarbonate generation and use, and new polymers and flame-resistant materials could be developed following the Conference.

* Bayer AG joined the ISTC in 1998 as a Partner. Since that date all associated Bayer Group companies, including Bayer MaterialScience, enjoy the status of ISTC Partner.
