ISTC remembers Dr. Evgeny N. Avrorin - Former ISTC SAC Member
Theoretical physicist, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and honorary scientific supervisor at the Russian Federal Nuclear Center, located in Snezhinsk in the Chelyabinsk Region, Dr. Evgeny Avrorin died overnight to Tuesday, at the age of 85.
Born in Leningrad in 1932, Avrorin was a recipient of numerous Soviet and Russian awards for his contribution to developing nuclear weapons, including the Order For Services to the Fatherland of the 3rd and 2nd degrees (1999 and 2006 respectively) and the Kurchatov Gold Medal (2013). In 2012, he received the national scientific Demidov Prize awarded annually to members of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Avrorin was also an outstanding member ISTC's Science Advisory Committee (SAC) and a strong supporter of ISTC in the early days and is fondly remembered by ISTC's Chairman Ronald Lehman, who commented that "all who knew Dr. Evgeny N. Avrorin were deeply saddened to learn of his passing". The ISTC Chairman personally had many wonderful memories of Evgeny Nikolaevich at work and socially in Snezhinsk, Moscow, California, and so many other places.
Dr. Avrorin loved science. He loved his country. And he loved working with his colleagues and friends around the world. On behalf of the Governing Board of the International Science and Technology Center and on behalf of his former colleagues on the Scientific Advisory Committee, ISTC extends its condolences to all his family and friends.
