ISTC Director Receives Honorary Doctorate from Kyrgyz Academy of Sciences
2 September 2011, Bishkek - At the occasion of the 15 year anniversary of ISTC activities in the Kyrgyz Republic, the National Academy of Sciences presented an Honorary Doctorate to ISTC’s Executive Director, Adriaan van der Meer. The important role of Vitaly Kovalenko, Head of the Kyrgyz branch office, was also underlined during the ceremony.
Adriaan van der Meer commented: “The role of Kyrgyz scientists is not to be understated. Their contribution has been significant, especially in the field of climate changes, atmospheric pollution and agriculture. Our involvement in the country will most likely be strengthened in the near future as Central Asia is called to play a more active role with ISTC.”
Since 1996 when the first Kyrgyz project was launched, ISTC has funded 86 scientific projects in Kyrgyzstan with a total value of $22,5 million. Moreover, 6 Communication Support projects funded $600,000 to connect 15 institutes to the internet and access important scientific publications. Hundreds of scientists have also taken part in ISTC competency building program.
During the Conference, participants discussed how to further promote commercialization of research results and technology transfer.
