Africa4Nuclear: A Paradigm Shift in Nuclear Advocacy and Communication, was officially launched on 6 October 2021, at the State Theatre in Pretoria, South Africa.

  Addressing the guests during the Launch, Gaopalelwe   Santswere, President of the African Young Generation   in Nuclear (AYGN), highlighted that this is the best   innovative campaign to have been implemented by the   AYGN. He further pleaded with the industry leaders to   support this campaign by availing resources as it is for   the good cause”.

 The Nuclear Communication Specialist, Princess   Mthombeni, the Host of Africa4Nuclear series told the   audience that she aims to change how Africans   perceive the nuclear energy source through one   scholastic video at a time. This is a platform that takes   the viewer through the evolution of energy and how   nuclear energy and its range of applications have   become a driving force that can improve lives all  across  Africa.

 The event was attended by nuclear industry   organizations in South Africa such as government Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa), Nuclear Industry Association of South Africa (NIASA), South African Young Nuclear Professionals Society (SAYNPS), Women in Nuclear South Africa, Nehawu Professionals Technical Committee (NPTC) and Stratek Consortium, among others. The chairperson of Necsa Board, Dave Nicholls gave a keynote address.

The guests were treated with the exclusive screening of the first episode out of 24 episodes of Africa4Nuclear campaign under the theme “Nuclear Energy – A Nexus of Life”. Recorded messages of support poured in from across the globe coming from institutions such as African Commission in Nuclear Energy, International Science and Technology Centre, Energy Impact Centre, Women in Nuclear Africa, UK Younger Generation in Nuclear, and many more.

Princess Mthombeni, who introduces herself as Nuclear Energy Enthusiast, Entrepreneur & Philanthropist, leads the implementation of Nuclear Stakeholder Management Strategy of the Department of Mineral resources and Energy of South Africa. She participated in the EU-funded ISTC implemented Project Support to Southern African States in Nuclear Safety and Safeguards.

A Board member of Women in Nuclear South Africa (WiNSA), Princess represents the organization’s point of view through interpretation of its services and advocacy for them. For instance, she organizes outreach programs and gives career talks to schools with an intention to inspire youth, particularly young women to consider STEM careers. The previous time ISTC had an occasion to extend congratulations to her was her winning of the WiN Global Excellence Award 2021. She was the second South African to receive this prestigious award after the renowned former Minister in the then Department of Energy, Ms Dipuo Peters. This distinction showed that the important work that South African women are doing is recognized and valued.
