ISTC co-hosted “International Science Symposium on Combating Radionuclide Contamination in Agro-soil Environment” with Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan and STCU.
ISTC funded project results were brought to Japanese agricultural researchers and practitioners during three days symposia held on 8-10 March, 2012 in Koriyama, Fukushima, Japan on the anniversary of the east Japan earthquake and Fukushima daiichi NPP accident.
During the symposia the results and technologies based on ISTC and STCU projects on decontamination of farmlands and monitoring of agro-environment were presented by Russian, Belorussian, Kazakh, and Ukrainian researchers, along with the presentation of post-Chernobyl experience by Academician Rudolf Alexakhin and other scientists from Russia and the other CIS countries. There were also a report on the Japanese efforts for restoring the agro-environment during the past year.
Japan is a founding member of ISTC and on the closing day, the meeting was attended by Mr. Michihiko Kano, the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan and high level representatives from the Fukushima prefectural Government and form the U. S. Embassy in Japan.
