ISTC attended the 30th Anniversary seminar "The Role of International Cooperation in the field of peaceful use of Nuclear Energy"
On 5 - 6 September the ISTC Executive Director David Cleave attended the 30th Anniversary seminar "The Role of International Cooperation in the field of peaceful use of Nuclear Energy", arranged by the Nuclear Society of Kazakhstan under its President Mr. Vladimir Shkolnik, who was one of the original founding fathers of the ISTC back in the early 1990's.
The seminar was attended by all of the elite of the Nuclear Industry in Kazakhstan represented by organisations, scientists and veterans. The welcome speech was given by the Energy Vice Minister Zhandos Numaganbetov with many congratulatory speeches by organizations such as Kazakh-American Free University, Kazatomprom, Ulba Metallurgical Plant, MODV AEP, Institute of Nuclear Physics and many others including the ISTC Director David Cleave.
The ISTC Executive Director also gave a presentation on "The role of ISTC in solving problems of non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD)"
The celebrations also included a laying of flowers at the Memorial of E.P. Slavsky who was one of the early leaders of the "Atomic Project" and was both an engineer and a Minister.
A side visit was also arranged to visit the Ulba Metallurgical Plant which is unique as one of the world’s largest producers of nuclear fuel for nuclear power plants.
