Bridging Generations in Science: Nobel Laureates and Young Leaders at the 2025 STS Forum in Kyoto, Japan

article

The 2025 Science and Technology in Society (STS) Forum in Kyoto once again brought together some of the world’s most brilliant scientists, policymakers, and young innovators. One of the most memorable parts of the event was the meeting between Nobel Laureates and Young Leaders — a special session where experience and fresh ideas came together to shape the future of science and society.

This year’s discussion was full of inspiration and honesty. Nobel Prize winners, including Sir J. Michael (Duncan) Haldane, Nobel Laureate in Physics (2016), and Professor Ryoji Noyori, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry (2001), met with young scientists from around the world to share their stories and lessons. They spoke not only about their discoveries, but also about the human side of science — curiosity, teamwork, failure, and the joy of discovery.

For the young participants, including representatives from Armenia and the wider Eurasian region, this dialogue was a truly special opportunity. Listening directly to Nobel Laureates reminded everyone that science is not only about experiments or results — it is also about passion, courage, and the belief that knowledge can make life better for people everywhere. Both Duncan Haldane and Ryoji Noyori encouraged young scientists to keep their curiosity alive and to use their knowledge responsibly. They reminded everyone that scientific progress brings both power and responsibility — and that ethics, transparency, and collaboration are just as important as innovation itself.

The young leaders shared their hopes for the future of science — a future that is more open, fair, and secure. Many of them spoke about the need to strengthen research integrity, protect knowledge from misuse, and build bridges between countries and disciplines. Their energy and optimism showed that the next generation is ready to continue the mission of science with purpose and heart. The 2025 STS Forum once again proved that when experience meets enthusiasm, great things can happen. The dialogue between Nobel Laureates and Young Leaders is more than a tradition — it is a living example of how science grows through connection, respect, and shared vision.
