Nanotechnology is a new area of global R&D and. Russia is devoting considerable resources to develop its industry. Russian companies, economic development organizations and regulatory agencies aiming to market these products to other countries will require an understanding of international standards, test guidelines and regulations regarding nanomaterials and nanotechnology. The purpose of the workshop is to provide an exchange of information between different bodies involved in this new industry in order to better compete globally while reducing environmental risks.

  • Russian government agencies and laws involved in regulation of nanotechnology and nanomaterials

  • Role of former defense toxicological institutes in developing safety standards for nanomaterials and the production using nanotoxicology (occupational health)

- Test guidelines (OECD, US and other countries)

- Overview of EHS research needs

 

  • Russian business perspective

- Overview of companies and products developing nano related products

- Environmentally beneficial nano products

- Lifecycle

 

Participation

Participation in the workshop is by invitation only. Qualified participants from countries of the former Soviet Union will be eligible to receive travel grants.

 

Applicants are asked to provide their name, affiliation, mailing and e-mail addresses, and a short abstract (one page maximum) of their proposed presentation at the workshop. 

Applications must be sent to the organizing committee’s e-mail ignatenko@rihtop.ru.

Deadline for submitting applications is May 1, 2009.

Languages

Working languages of the workshop will be English and Russian. Simultaneous translation will be provided.

 

Publications

Organizers will publish materials of the workshop. Confirmed participants will be asked to submit copies of their presentations in English and Russian. Presentations must be in Powerpoint format and must be sent to the organizing committee’s e-mail ignatenko@rihtop.ru.Deadline for submitting presentations is June 1, 2009.
