The Regional Workshop on NIAID/​NIH Grant Application Process and Procedures and Manuscript Writing through May 1 – 5, 2017 in Tbilisi, Georgia

The NIAID/NIH, IDACIRC and ISTC co-sponsored a regional grant application and manuscript writing workshop in Tbilisi, Georgia last month from May 1st-5th, 2017.  The workshop was opened by the US Ambassador to Georgia, Mr. Ian Kelly, and included keynote presentations from Ms. Nino Berdzuli (Deputy Minister of Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia), Professor Tengiz Tsertsvadze (General Director of AIDS and Clinical Immunology Research Center (IDACIRC), Professor Ranjan Gupta (Regional Officer for South Asia & Eurasia Office of Global Research NIH/NIAID), Professor James Meegan (Director, Office of Global Research NIH/NIAID) and Mrs. Ayimgul Frith (Senior Program Manager BTEP, ISTC).

The regional workshop involved nearly 90 public and private sector biomedical scientists from Georgia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan.  The workshop was divided into 3 sessions focused on competitive Grant Application writing, accurate Scientific Manuscript writing and a hands-on Manuscript writing training session that produced up to 10 articles suitable for submission for international scientific publishing.  Expert Instructors from the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID/NIH) and San Francisco University, Department of Public Health United States led each session, and, actively encouraged both delegate participation and exchange of best practice.
