Research Opportunities in TB Drug Discovery and Diagnostics, May 24-25, 2010, Moscow, Russia

This workshop was organized by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the National Institutes of Health (NIH/NIAID), United States Department of Health and Human Services, in collaboration with the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC), in Moscow. on May 24-25, 2010.

Purpose: The workshop aims to bring together scientists from the U.S., the Russian Federation, countries from the Former Soviet Union (FSU) and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) to explore research opportunities in TB drug discovery and diagnostics. 
The specific goals of the workshop are to: 

1. Share the latest state-of-the-art scientific information on research to detect and combat M(X)DR-TB in the U.S., the Russian Federation, and other areas of the world. 
2. Identify partnership opportunities to advance and accelerate new diagnostic and drug discovery efforts to simplify and improve therapeutic options for resistant tuberculosis. 
3. Explore potential connections for bioinformatics related to systems biology and genomics of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. 

The workshop will consist of oral and poster presentations and will also provide participants with ample opportunity to network. 

Meeting Format: The format will include scientific talks, breakout and poster sessions.
