Regional Workshop on Biosafety and Biosecurity in Life-Science Research was held in Islamabad, Pakistan on 26th of April 2016
The ISTC Secretariat was invited to present at the "Regional Workshop on Biosafety and Biosecurity in Life-Science Research" in Islamabad, Pakistan on April 26th, 2016. The 3 day workshop was co-organised by the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS), the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (IESCO) and the Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS).
The event was targeted at University-level students and researchers actively involved in biotech, clinical and veterinary research in Pakistan. Active discussions, a poster competition and case study examples were presented on Biosafety and Biosecurity training, risk management, ethics, regulations and use in sustainable scientific research.
Dr Graeme Frith, who represented the ISTC, commented that this was "a hugely successful and enjoyable meeting that clearly demonstrated the commitment of the Pakistani scientific community to train its future generation of bioscientists to the highest international standards", Furthermore, the workshop provided the Secretariat with a perfect opportunity to directly engage with key stakeholders in COMSATS, IESCO and PAS.
