Project 60 Steering Committee Holds Its Sixth Meeting in Vienna, on the Fringes of IAEA General Conference 63
On 17 September 2019 ISTC Executive Director David Cleave opened the Sixth Steering Committee meeting of the CBRN CoE Project 60 “Support to the Centre of Excellence of Eastern and Central Africa in Nuclear Security” convened in Vienna, back-to-back with the EU Side event on Europe – Africa cooperation in the field of nuclear security.
The main tasks on the agenda of the Steering Committee were the current state of implementation of the Project and the P-60 extension. ENCO Team Leader Mr. Nicolas Delaunay presented the New Tasks for the Project 60 extension, encompassing new, additional Work Packages, including equipment related matters. ENCO’s Senior Expert Vladimir Ruhlo informed on the radiation and nuclear components in the "all hazard" emergency planning in the participating countries and how to develop and imbed specific RN plans as part of their emergency preparedness. Strategies for the recovery of orphan sources and for sources that are at risk of becoming orphans became also focus of attention. The SC members assessed the results of the Train-the –Trainer courses, the Table Top and Field exercises and the steps that are needed for the local trainers to disseminate the acquired knowledge and skills. Participants noted the importance of the bilateral and multilateral exchange of information, and the useful role of the Project’s website in that regard.
The Steering Committee also decided on the schedule of the remaining activities, as the implementation of the existing objectives of Project - 60 draws to completion.
