The ISTC together with STCU organized an international Workshop on Environmental Forensics. It was for the first time that such a workshop was held.

The purpose was to bring together scholars, regulators and other interested persons working in the field of environmental forensics and to discuss research results.

The focus was on sharing information on scientific techniques available to identify contaminating agents (dioxin/furans, chlorinated solvents, metals, petroleum hydrocarbons) including their way of dissemination (soil, groundwater, surface water, atmosphere, soil gas, sediments).

More than 80 scientists, engineers, managers, project directors, business representatives from 12 countries (Canada, USA, France, UK, Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Azerbaijan) attended the workshop held in Georgia on 12-16 September 2011. More than 40 presentations and 20 posters were made during six thematic sessions.
