A workshop “Science and Technology for the Prevention of Biological Threats: Progress & Future Plans Workshop” (Center on Export Controls)” was held 21-22 May 2012 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
A workshop “Science and Technology for the Prevention of Biological Threats: Progress & Future Plans Workshop” (Center on Export Controls)” was held 21-22 May 2012 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. In total 15-17 participants from Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Georgia, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan participated. The steering committee for the TI was in part present for the workshop along with technical representatives on behalf of the US Department of Energy.
The main goals of the working meeting were to:
- Present and review current projects/activities in the areas of food safety and disease surveillance and prevention; lessons learned in implementation of existing and upcoming projects,
- Discuss national and institutional efforts to increase bio-safety and bio-security;
- Discuss regional priorities and regional needs in bio-safety and bio-security in terms of training and other capacity building activities
- Discuss proposals for potential future joint research and development projects or other collaboration to meet regional threats, needs, and gaps
