PPRD Med Programme hosted its 3rd Steering Committee in France

In January 2025, Aix-en-Provence hosted the 3rd Steering Committee of the PPRD Med Programme, marking the midpoint of this three-year initiative. With representatives from nine partner countries (Libya, Algier, Mauritania, Jordan, Palestine, Tunisia, Israel, Morocco, Lebanon), EU institutions, UN bodies, and civil protection authorities. The meeting underscored the importance of regional and cross-border collaboration in tackling natural and man-made disasters in the Mediterranean.
Key takeaways:
- Mid-term assessment of pilot projects on flood mitigation, dam safety, and NaTechs response
- Promoting joint projects, such as Algeria-Tunisia’s flood monitoring and upcoming Jordan-Palestine collaboration
- Integration of cutting-edge tools like Earth observation satellites and advanced geospatial analytics
- Inspiring visits to French civil protection hubs, including Valabre, UIISC7, and ENSOSP
With the Mediterranean region increasingly vulnerable to climate-induced risks, PPRD Med is paving the way for stronger, united responses. Discussions on extending the project beyond 2026 highlight the urgency to sustain momentum and integrate digital solutions into crisis management. The project is sponsored by the European Union and administered by the International Science and Technology Center.
