The International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) took part in the International Forum of Strategic Partners: “Kazakhstan – Territory of Academic Knowledge”, a key event uniting representatives of science, higher education, and innovation ecosystems. The Forum provided a global platform to exchange expertise and foster dialogue on the future of academic collaboration, innovation, and technology transfer.

A highlight of the Forum was the panel session “From Science to Market: Technology Transfer”, moderated by Ms. Gulzat Kobenova, Vice Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The discussion gathered prominent experts and institutional leaders, including Ms. Karina Anguelieva, Executive Director of the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC); Mr. Yerlan Isakaev, Rector of M. Kozybayev North Kazakhstan University; Professor Jeff Pyun from the University of Arizona (USA); and Mr. Nick Marshall, expert from the Royal Academy of Engineering (UK).

In her speech titled “Bridging Research and Industry in Central Asia: Why Building Sustainable Innovation Ecosystems Is Key to Resilience, Competitiveness, and Social Cohesion”, Ms. Anguelieva underlined ISTC’s evolving mission to connect research, industry, and governments through technology transfer and evidence-based collaboration. She emphasized that resilient innovation ecosystems are crucial for strengthening competitiveness, driving sustainability, and ensuring regional stability. Her presentation is available here.

The session focused on how Kazakhstan is accelerating the integration of science and business, with a shared vision to commercialize research outcomes, stimulate innovation, and build partnerships with industry. Participants highlighted the importance of developing talent, diversifying funding models, and expanding international cooperation to bridge the gap between academia and the private sector.

The Forum confirmed Kazakhstan’s growing role as a regional hub for academic and scientific cooperation, advancing strategic partnerships with leading global universities and institutions.

ISTC’s participation reflects its commitment to supporting national reforms, strengthening research–industry linkages, and promoting science diplomacy as a foundation for sustainable development.

As Ms. Anguelieva concluded:

“Technology transfer is not only an economic driver — it is a source of social benefit, fostering inclusiveness, resilience, and shared progress. By connecting people, ideas, and institutions, we create ecosystems that endure and evolve.”
