Краткое описание проектаThe embryos of hen and Japanese quails which are free from any pathogens of viral and bacterial origin CSPF or specific pathogen free) find wide application in production of several vaccines necessa-ry for medicine and veterinary.
For Russia, as well as for the CIS on the whole, the question concerning the organization of our own SPF-farm, now lacking, is extremely actual and timely. Thus, for instance, the growth of measles morbidity, both among children and adults, causes the increased need for the correspond ing vaccine; however, the import of quails eggs ne-cessary for the vaccine production, is d isadvantageous both from the economical point of view and due to the considerable deterioration of embryo quality while delivering over large distances and insufficient development of transport services.
The key indicator of SPF-production is the absence of the pathogens of infectious diseases in the biosamples of the birds as well as the lack of antibodies against these pathogens. The fulfillment of this and the other requirements usually means that the embryoproducing plant is located geographically well off both the other farms and microbiological vaccine-producing enterprises themselves. The resulting increase of the transport outlays and other costs rise the prime cost; thus only volume product ion can be prof it able which sometimes exceeds the needs of consumers.
The urgency of the task being considered, we suggest the alternative approach. This approach implies that "biological safety" of the farm is provided not by its geographic isolation, but through a number of technical measures such as placing the birds in isolated premises supplied with the filters for fine air purification on the ventilation system, entrance locks including gray zone with shower, locks for supplies transfer, etc.
However, since using of such measures is based on the general sanitary and hygienic principles, the quantitative investigations of the parameters determining the risk of the inbringing an infection into the farm are necessary to substantiate this approach.
SRC VB "Vector" as the participating organization has the unique potentials and facilities for performance of the proposed project. In fact, the constructional features of the building No 6a of SRC VB "Vector" which was originally intended for the work with specific viral pathogens provide, without any major reconstruction, the accommo dation of the producing and parental flocks in the premises which are biologically isolated through the necessary set of technological systems. All conditions for performing the studies of the proposed sanitary and hygienic measures are available. At the same time according to the aims and objectives of the ISTC, the creative potential of the scientists which were previously involved, in accordance to the State orders, in the investigations concerning the development of the methods for indication of viruses and viral aerosols and in the creation and study of the factors for decreasing of the effects of medical and prophylactic means.
Significance of the results expected to be obtained as a result of the fulfillment of the proposed project is evident since the organization of SPF-eggs production unit even in the laboratory version can satisfy the needs of Russia in the quails embryos for production of measles vaccine. Besides, the development of the technique, in the course of the project fulfillment, for the complex estimation of the epidemiological state of the farm can be later used for estimation of the sanitary conditions of the large fowl and cattle farms, for determination of the necessity of certain quarantine measures, etc.
The following work schedule is planned: accommodation of fowl flock and obtaining a stable outcome of eggs; development of techniques and experimental determination with their help of the efficacy of the applied techniques and systems which provide the biocontainment (these works are planned to be carried out using both physical and nonpathogenic biological models); qualitative estimation, using the regression analysis methods, of the risk factors of the infection inbringing to the farm; summing of the data obtained and preparing the package of scientificengineering specifications substantiating the possibility of using these embryos in vaccine production in order to submit these recommendations to the Russian and international institutions which control the production of vaccinal preparations for men and animals.
