Краткое описание проектаThe Project is aimed mainly at investigating of the electromagnetic emissions of lithological origin with the purpose of elaboration of methods for short-term and operative forecasting of such natural phenomena as earthquakes and volcano eruptions. It is aimed at investigation of principal physical effects, which may be regarded as basic mechanisms of mechano-electric conversion in the focus area of the earthquakes and volcano eruptions. These goals will be realized by identification and analyzing of electromagnetic signals preceding seismic phenomena. The original signal form in the near zone refined of distortions, which it undergoes in the course of its propagation, will be restored by optimal filtering methods. Computed pulse characteristics of different surface and ionosphere paths will be used for such restoration as well. Statistical treatment of the available experimental database of useful (from seismic events) and interfering (from lightning discharges) signals at some Earth regions will make it possible to establish specific signatures of the signals and to elaborate a method of their pision. Studying of electromagnetic fields in the epicentral ranges of seismic phenomena will make it possible to estimate the relative contributions of the piezo-electric, piezo-magnetic, electro-kinetic and inductive effects to the nature of mechano-electromagnetic transformation. The comparison of theoretical and experimental estimates of electromagnetic fields in the focus area is supposed to make it possible to find regularities in changing of their time-form characteristics depending on specific parameters of seismic phenomena. It will help to solve the problems of short- term and operative forecasting of these phenomena for reducing their devastating consequences.
A theoretical description of the mechano-electromagnetic conversion nature elaborated on the basis of experimental data investigation with physical analysis of seismic-generating processes is supposed to be one of the main results of the Project carrying out. The developed optimal filtering algorithms of seismic events electromagnetic signals against the interference background of thunderstorm activity will allow to reveal dependencies between the electromagnetic anomaly at seismic phenomena preparation, undistorted by the propagation processes, and specific parameters of these geophysical cataclysms. Recommendations for future investigation of the problem will be elaborated at the final stage of the Project carrying out.
More than a dozen of scientists and specialists engaged in defense sphere will take part in the activities under the Project, that corresponds to the aims of the ISTC activity promoting conversional processes and environmental monitoring.
Potential role of foreign collaborators
Foreign collaborators will participate in drawing up of the ISTC Agreement under Project accepted to funding by ISTC and to receive whole scientific information prepared during its carrying out. Besides they will have an opportunity of representation of experimental data on electromagnetic emissions of seismic phenomena in broad range of frequencies for processing on technique developed in the Project. The Project results may be of interest for experts in the field of electromagnetic method of seismic event prediction, which work in the USA, Japan, France, Italy, Greece and other countries.
