Project summary

The development of new methods for NOx emission reduction in the process of natural gas combustion in power generation and gas pumping. This problem is rather actual in the whole World and especially in Russia not only because of backwardness in development of modern equipment for power generation but because of conversion of aircraft engines industry and projecting airderivative power and gas pumping stations.

The goal of the project is to develop ideas about NOx generation in the process of natural gas combustion in turbulent air flows and elaboration of new methods for NOx emission reduction in this process. To achieve this goal we propose to conduct experimental and numerical analysis of "prompt" NOx generation in rich air-gas mixtures, intermediate (between diffusion and premixed) combustion of such mixtures and "nonflame" combustion of very lean air-gas gas mixtures at high initial temperatures.

As results of the work we propose to manufacture and test a burner for a boiler and a model of combustion chamber for gas turbine with levels of NOx emission lower than achieved to the present moment in power generation. Their design is based on the idea of utilization air-fuel mixtures with different composition in one device.
