Project summary

The strategic objective of the project is to enhance efficiency of space systems for ecological, resource, and economic monitoring on the basis of advanced achievements in sciences about the Earth -regularities of energy-information exchange in a geosystem and mapping of these regularities into electromagnetic field structure of the Earth. This target could be reached by means of development of a new theoretical base for study of the Earth with remote methods.

Having considered this new knowledge, one could substantiate the conception of creation of space systems for ecological, resource, and economic monitoring of lithosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, and Earth atmosphere and formulate some requests to remote sounding equipment, satellite orbits parameters, and other elements of a space system.

The principle difference in sensing systems substantiation between the proposed approach and the conventional one is what the focus of estimation of the systems informativity for the first one is transferred from use of intensity of signals registered at various zones of electromagnetic spectrum and of complex of the signals with conventional methods (pattern recognition, factor analysis, basis function decomposition, synthesizing, and others) to construction of information structures of signals compositions that are appearing. Information structures of images reflect essential information about object internal structure and enable solving some problems on ecological and resource studies and on economy complexes condition estimation which remain unsolved by conventional approaches. Among them the following should be noted: study of structural horizons of lithosphere and hydrosphere, localization of energetically active areas in the Earth's crust and hydrosphere, estimation of structure of tension-deformation conditions of various horizons of the Earth's crust, break destruction detection of the Earth's crust and earthquake prediction; Earth crust based local objects zone-circular structure study, mineral deposit prognostication and search, exploration drilling design and others; differentiation degree increase for ecological pollution of atmosphere, water environment, and the Earth's surface; localization of pathogenic areas, land-survey tasks accomplishment.

The particular aim of the project is to develop methodological bases for creation of new generation space systems for ecological, resource, and economic remote sensing of the Earth.

The problems to be solved are as follows:


1. Requirements to create space systems for the Earth's natural resources exploration and monitoring development methodology state analysis.
2. Theoretical substantiation for the concept of creation of new generation space monitoring systems based on new achievements in sciences about the Earth.
3. Validation of requirements to new generation space monitoring systems parameters.
4. Development of methodology of complex processing and interpretation of geoinformation to be obtained by new generation space systems on the basis of non-traditional approach.

The results to be expected are as follows:

As a result of the project completion a new theoretical base to develop highly effective systems for ecological, nature, and economic space monitoring will be created. Owing to the expansion of a range of the problems to be resolved, and to the reduction of conventional methods of control, the new generation systems will enable to enhance essentially economic efficiency of researches of the Earth resources from the space and the estimation of ecological conditions of the Earth. As is supposed, the terms of working period on mapping and geological search will be shortened, as well as some advantages, which are not obvious today will be obtained.

Possible role of foreign collaborators is participation in the discussion of the research results and consulting.
