Project summary

The aim of the project is the study of processes of cancerogene transformation in the environment, their utilization by plants and the establishment of cancerogenic and mutagenic activities of the metabolites.

Another aim of the project is the rational regulation of the processes of cancerogene transformation and the working out of practical recommendations for the health protection and of the environment.

The problem is very actual, as the rise of the level of such diseases as cancer,allergy etc that are in dependence with the content of cancerogenic compounds in the environment (air, water, plants,food products etc.) is seen. It must be stated, that the presence of these chemical substances and their pernicious influence on living cell is manifested after a long incubation period and can be revealed too late.

At present the solution of this problem in many countries depends on the economical situation in the country and its scientific potency. The works on the prevention of formation and production of chemical cancerogenes are carried out, convertion of manufacture with re-profiliation of products is conducted, manufactures with close cycles are formed, rectificational structures for the prevention of the environment pollution are constructed and rejection of the products of incomplete combustion into atmosphere (exhausted gases, TEPS and etc.) are installed, modern biotechnological methods are introduced into production, preventive and sanitar-hygienic measures are taken.

New and distinguished characteristic of the given project is the complex solution of the given problem. Theoretical elaboration is closely linked with practical recommendations on the protection of the environment and health of population.

Scientific value of the project consists in the study of the processes of cancerogene transformation on cellular, subcellular and molecular levels with the determination of the main ways of transformation, exposing enzymatic systems, responsible for the given process, and the formation of the conditions of rational and purposeful regulation of transformation with the formation of nontoxic noncancerogenic metabolites.

Practical value of the project is the establishment of those species of plants that are able to accumulate and utilise cancerogenic compounds for their recommendation for the greening of terrirories polluted by chemical compounds.

Economical advantage is connected first of all with the use of plants for the protection and purification of the environment from cancerogenes instead of expensive rectificational constructions.

Potential role of foreign collaborators consists in the exchange of information on the given problem, active participation in the determination of chemical structure of the metabolites, the discussion of the results of research and the practical recommendations, joint publications.
