Project summary

It is planned obtaining of high effective decontamination adsorption systems on the basis of research of processes of heterogeneous condensation on a interface of solid, liquid and gas phases. An anomalous growth of absorption is expected along with the known effect of the absorption growth due to the increase of adsorbent surface, because the system becomes of critical character and fluctuational dissipation of the adsorbent particle surface at colloidal degrees of dispersity of the order 10 - 100 nm. The structural materials of the atomic industry (carbon and stainless steels), including those contaminated with radionuclides, will be used as the object of investigation.

The investigation of the state of surface and adsorbent with recent instrumental methods (electronic microscopy, Auger spectroscopy, X-ray structure analysis, JR spectroscopy, gamma-spectroscopy and others) will allow to obtain useful information about chemistry and physics of the processes, taking place on solid surface and on this ground to create highly effective decontamination methods.

When realizing this project the adsorption decontamination methods of metal surface will be developed on the basis of the use of foams and microheterogeneous suspensions, allowing to increase decontamination coefficient at single-step processing by a factor of 10 and to decrease the amount of liquid radioactive wastes by 2-3 times.

In perspective it is intended to obtain highly effective process of solid surface decontamination with small amount of reagent.

The objective of the project is to investigate the processes, taking place on the interface between solid and liquid phases in the presence of foams and microheterogeneous suspensions. The constructural materials of the atomic industry (carbon and stainless steels), including those contaminated with uranium dioxide and radionuclides, will be used as the object of investigation (Material - stainless steel, 20ґ20 mm; radionuolldes 60Co, 136Cs, 105Ru, 95Zr, 95Nb).

The technical approach and methodology


– investigation of structure and properties of constructural material surfaces during the processes of decontamination treatment;
– determination of critical degree of decontamination compositions on size of suspension particles and CCM (Critical Generetlon of Micelle);
– determination of optimal conditions of decontamination of carbon and stainless steels in decontamination solutions, foams and microheterogeneous suspensions;
– evaluation of the degree of constructural materials purification from radioactive contamination;
– development of decontamination methods.

Expected results
