Project summaryThe project CIS SO ICN is directed at extension of the information and computing network of the scientific centers and institutions (SC ICN) created and put into experimental operation in accordance with the project #007-94 of the ISTC, by inclusion in this network regional subscriber centers of republics Belarus (Minsk) and Kazakhstan (Almaty).
The development and installation of software and hardware complexes (which raises operativeness of information exchange) and the extension of satellite communications and data transfer system as well as connection CIS SO ICN to the global network INTERNET are provided by the project.
It is supposed too, to organize information interchange between the local area networks of CIS SO ICN and ISTC that will provide a possibility for ISTC managers to obtain operative information about the progress of projects being carried out in scientific organizations of CIS countries.
The project collaborator - Digital Equipment Corp. is entrusted with supplying with software/hardware means, technical assistance, when network is put into operation, and guarantee maintenance of technical complexes. Besides DEC other companies, producers and suppliers of electronic equipment from the EC, the USA and Japan could be attracted for participating in the project.
The International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) is an intergovernmental organization connecting scientists from Kazakhstan, Armenia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Georgia with their peers and research organizations in the EU, Japan, Republic of Korea, Norway and the United States.
ISTC facilitates international science projects and assists the global scientific and business community to source and engage with CIS and Georgian institutes that develop or possess an excellence of scientific know-how.
