Brief

Following the decision of the Council of Ministers the USSR on 22 October 1951 the scientific-Research Institute of Experimental Pathology and Cancer Therapy was created in Moscow.

Research

Scientific-research activities of the Russian Cancer Research Centre after N.N. Blokhin of RAMS are carried out in the framework of priority directions of the RF such as “Life Systems Technology”, “Information and Telecommunication technologies and Electronics” and critical technologies of federal level, approved by the President of the RF.
The priority research directions of RCRC are:
- development of absolutely novel and existing diagnostics methods and complex treatment of malignant tumours, based on the implementation of novel technologies and achievements in modern experimental and clinical oncology (“Life Systems Technology”, “Gene Probe and Gene Therapy”, “ Immune Correction Technologies”, “Information and Telecommunication Technologies”, “Bioengineering Technologies”, “Computer Modelling”);
- epidemiology and prophylaxis of malignant tumours (“Life Systems Technology”, “Gene Probe and Gene Therapy”, “ Immune Correction Technologies”);
- development of novel anticancer drugs (“Synthesis of Medicines and Food Supplements”, ‘Bioengineering Technologies”).

The key research directions of RCRC after N.N. Blokhin of RAMS are:
- genetics, biochemistry, biophysics, immunology, virology, morphology of tumours. The development of gene probe of inherited susceptibility to the development of certain malignant tumours, monitoring approach and strategy for carriers of cancer causing genes;
- research of effects of endogenous and exogenous factors on cancer origin, molecular-biological research of oncogenesis.
- Experimental and clinical development of novel means and methods of diagnostics, surgical, radiation drug (including biotheraputic) and combination therapy of malignant tumour of adults and children.
Implementation of novel equipment and technologies (in particular, novel methods of interventional radiology and videosurgery) in oncology.
