Kyrgyz is a great home to herbs and flora. More than 4000 species flourish on high mountains at various seasons. Some of them have been known by its potential medical use. Despite of high scientific interest to these plants, they have been insufficiently studied so far. Kyrgyz researchers recently had intensive talks with Japanese pharmaceutical scientists for collaborative study how to utilize this gift from the nature, by the support of Japanese supplementary budget of ISTC.

The workshop brought together Central Asia regional scientists and policy makers with U.S. experts in botany, microbiology, ecology, food security, zoonotics and biomedical fields to discuss the needs of diverse stakeholders in using their rich natural resources in a sustainable manner.

An annual International Conference of the Center for Life Sciences of Nazarbayev University took place on May 13-14 in Astana, Kazakhstan. ISTC was involved in the conference as a co-organizer with financial support of the Japanese Party.
