ISTC Volunteer Program
The International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) is an intergovernmental organization which has programs that involve scientists from Kazakhstan. Currently ISTC facilitates international science project in the field of Verification of Nuclear non-proliferation.
Program: Building Capacity on Multilateral Verification of Nuclear Disarmament (Towards the establishment of a Nuclear Disarmament Verification research hub in Support of the Development of Practical and Effective Nuclear).
The Volunteer (unpaid position) is responsible for assisting to some aspects of the program including: setting up meetings online, helping on setting up meetings in Nur-Sultan/Almaty with Universities, organizational support during the meetings, translation if required.
Qualifications and training required: Bachelors (4th year) or Master degree students:
1- Public Policy (National legislative, regulatory and policy framework to nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament);
2- Sciences and Humanities (natural sciences).
Essential skills and qualities include: Ability to work with ISTC management and with a variety of people including science members.
Other: Translation skills; time management skills; communication skills; sensitivity and discretion with personal information; IT skills, including social media; organizational skills.
Program timeline: Oct 2020 - maybe will continue next year 2021 (for graduate students may be till June'2020)
Four areas in which scientists will do research (not volunteers):
1- National policy context and engagement in international and regional debates and activities relating to nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament.
2- National legislative, regulatory and policy framework pertaining to nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament.
3- National nuclear industry, including nuclear fuel cycle activities.
4- The involvement of academia and other organs of civil society in nuclear-related education and training, nationally.
